Subject: Helpful organizations for travel and lodging

I saw it mentioned that some people are traveling some distance to be seen by a
sarcoma specialist. Here are some helpful links in regards to travel and
lodging.

Travel
Corporate Angel Network

Angel Flight America

Patient Travel (Formerly National Patient Air Transport)

Hospitality Program (Accommodations, Boston, MA)

Amschwand Foundation (Accommodations, Houston, TX)

Cancer Fund of America (help for low income patients)

I'm sure there's more. If any of you have other suggestions, please post them.

Other suggestions, when you make your appointment (if you self refer) or when
you have a doctors referral, contact the facility and ask for a social worker.
Then ask for any discounts that are available for travel and lodging for their
patients. I know Continental had low-cost airfare for when I took Piera to MD
Anderson, but we had to have a patient ID number. There were also medical
discounts at some nearby hotels, but we had to ask for them.

Also, contact your local American Cancer Society (ACS) chapter. I know we've
had discussions about how much (or little) ACS funding goes into sarcoma
research, but the local chapters can be VERY helpful to their local residents.
There have been listmembers that had their travel to a sarcoma center paid by
the local ACS chapter. And there are other benefits from the local ACS
chapters, like wigs and scarves, local in-person support groups, and more.

I hope this helps,
